Hunting Boots

Welcome to Hunting-boots.net.

Out of of all the hunting gear that a hunter usually needs, a good pair of hunting boots seems to be the one area where people either skimp to save money or don't take the time to educate themselves about boots. I've always been amazed to see hunters spend hundreds or even thousands of dollars on rifles or shotguns with optics, and then invest $25.00 for a pair of boots.

When you stop and think about how much time you might be spending on your feet or sitting in the cold, it really makes good sense to invest some money in a decent pair of boots.  Now I'm not one of those purist who says that you have to spend $200 on "real" boots, but I do feel that you get what you pay for.

Parting of educating yourself about boots generally means asking questions or doing some research. Let's face it, nobody wants to sound naive and ask basic questions like:

  • "What's Thinsulate and how much do I need to keep my feet warm?"
  • What's the best sole for my type of hunting?"
  • "What size boot do I need?

In truth, I did the exact same thing the first time I bought a pair of hunting boots. Afraid to look like a greenhorn to the salesperson, I didn't ask any questions, or bother to try on the boots. Three days later on the opening day of deer season, I learned 2 very important lessons:

  1. Always break your new boots in well before hunting season
  2. Water resistant isn't the same thing as waterproof

I spent 2 days hunting deer with aching, cold feet that stayed wet as I was hunting in a swampy, low lying area.

In an effort so save you from the same problems, I'm going to try to provide as much information as I can about various hunting boots including info on:

  • Materials
  • Designs
  • Specialty boots (like snake boots)
  • Various boot manufacturers

Hopefully, you'll find the information provided here to be beneficial.
