Type of tall boots for hunt seat?
ByI just recently decided to start showing my gelding in hunt seat classes (ie hunter under saddle and hunt seat eq) at quarter horse/buckskin shows. It has been 15 years since I have shown hunt seat, so I'm out of it. What type of tall boots should I be looking for? I see field boots and dress boots online at State Line Tack so wanted to check first. Thanks in advance!

Field boots, with laces would be most appropriate.

i would imagine that field boots that have the lace up in the front and the zip up back with a snap at the top are best… i’ve heard slip on ones are a pain in the butt

I used to have field boots (the ones with the laces) that were pull-on, but they were a royal pain in the @$$!
So I got a pair of Devon-Aire Nouvelle Zip Field Boots, and I LOVE them!
Zippers are the way to go!
I like boots with the Spanish top best, they look classy and give you room to stick your crop in the boot, too.
Dress boots (without laces) are for dressage.

Definately need field boots. The Devon-Aire brand from SLT and other tack stores are great and can be fairly inexpensive. I have about a $75 pair that I bought 7 years ago (and ridden a TON in) that are comfortable and look fabulous. I have shown in AQHA shows while wearing them and always done well. They have fake leather on them – but look and feel real. Beset wishes!

Field Boots are the best way 2 go. if u didnt kno dress boots are really just short for dressage boots. they dont really allow for the drop in the heel. they should be a synthetic leather b/c they are much easier than leather. u cant wash horses in leather & u cant hose them down when they get real dirty. synthetic is way easier 2 clean & are way more comfy & easier 2 break in. a field boot is with a lace preferably. When buying a boot make sure you find the right length & a spanish style cut is a must. Spanish cuts give more of a longer-legged look. Be careful when choosing zip up or pull on. i own Devon- Aire pull ons(way affordable) im not sure what the model is. ppl say pulls are a hassle. they really arnt. i like them better than zips. they have a more sleek look & u dont hav 2 worry about the zipper breaking. some say that the zipper is annoying when it rubs up against the back of your leg. i personally agree…
good luck finding the perfect boot! i know i did
