why can’t i keep my feet warm while duck hunting? (in waders)?

i buy what claims to be the warmest socks...i looked at the electric socks and they looked cheap, like they were already falling apart..i bought a pair of those inserts that go into the boots, but a pair that fits your feet won't fit the boots...any help?

wear 3 thin socks, then 2 thick socks (it works for me!)

i spent a year in antarctica in the really cold weather. but the wool socks and foot warmers. they stick to youre socks use a pair on each foot . on the outside of youre socks. my feet where never cold in antarctica. the foot warmers cost a buck at walmart

You are totally surrounded by water that is way below your blood temp. You are not active…try a battery powered one that isn’t cheap…they make them for such things. If not, keep your upper body warmer & that will keep the circulating blood warmer till it gets into your extemities.

Wool socks(worsted)..works great…you really have to be careful with the electric socks…if you have any type circulation problems..or diabetics. Know of some folks that swear by women’s hosiery….never could bring myself to try that……lol

These are the warmest waders per the salesman at LL Bean – DH tried these on recently! I’m very impressed with their innovative strap design that place the buckles at the waist! They keep the chest area clear and won’t interfere with your swing when you shoulder your shotgun. I do not hunt myself, but a lot of friends and family members do so I’ll tell you what I have learned from them. First make sure that your feet are clean and dry, then coat your feet and up your leg with a warming balm such as Tiger Balm. Put on one pair of polypropylene socks, they are sold as ski liners in sporting goods departments. One of the brands I am familiar with is Wigwam and it is a Gobi Liner.
Then put on one more pair of a slightly heavier weight socks, such as a wool or wool blends. There are shoe/boot inserts that are made to hold one of those footwarmers that are the rectangles that are a safe chemical warming agent. These will hold the heat for up to eight hours. Some of the people that I know that use these will actually place a couple of more of the packets inside the waders down near their ankles for additional warmth.
The “electric” socks can work, but I also know a few people who found them to be uncomfortable. The foot and hand warmers can be found at walmart, as well as the insole that has the place for the foot warmer. Just look in the boot/shoe department. They also have them in the sporting goods department. They sometimes have the ski liner type socks also, but they are not as good of a quality as the Wigwam. A lot of people that are all weather runners and hikers use the method of the warming balm and a thin liner sock, and it really does the trick.
You can also try buying the actual sheepskin inserts which are made as replacements for the Ugg boots, trim the side of them smaller so that you can fit them in the boots and that will help immensely. I own a couple of pairs of Ugg boots and I can be out in way below freezing temps in a snowstorm for hours and my feet and legs will never get cold. I don’t care about fashion so I don’t know if they are “in” or “out” I wear them anyway. Hope these suggestions help. I actually sold footwear for many years, so have learned a lot about foot comfort through that experience. There is nothing worse than cold and uncomfortable feet to ruin a great outdoor experience.
