I'm not sure of the name of the store but it's one of those Army surplus places. It's on Market about a half of block from Civic Center. It's on the same side of the street as that drugstore and the strip club. They have all kinds of boots in the window so you won't miss them.

This will depend on the type of leather you have but it is possible to colour them black. If they absorb moisture easily then you can use aniline dyes to soak into the leather and this will not come off on anything as it is sealed in.
If you want a pigment coating then BRIT colours will colour over either aniline or pigment leathers and can then be finished and again should not come off.

Leathers is unfortunately wrong and I don't know what products he used but they were not the right ones.

it's too late, the dye is added to the leather in the tanning process. anything you put on now will bleed on everything it touches, your hands, clothing, carpets. It will need to be applied regularly, if infact it will be absorbed in to the leather. I once had a customer who wanted some beige leather shoes dyed navy blue for a wedding. there were two different leathers used and only the toes turned out dark blue. After the wedding she had Smurf feet until she grew new skin.
Take them back and order a pair in black.

I used to have a pair of Catapillars and I loved them. As far as steel toe goes, that's really a matter of controversy. A steel toe will protect you if something slightly heavy falls on your foot. However, if something really heavy falls on your foot, your steel toe cuts your toes right off. I do not know anyone personally that this has happened too... But its what I heard through the grape vine when I bought my lovely cats all those years ago. Good luck, I hope you find a wonderful pair of boots that you love!

I've used the Cabela's 8 Point and something similar to the Rocky, with 1000 and 600 gram Thinsulate and haven't had any problems or issues at all. With the evil terrain around Boise, steep hills, loose volcanic jumble, basalt fields, desert and canyons, then all the rest of the stuff you can get into within 100 miles........I would look at getting some boots with good ankle support and aggressive sole. Being waterproof is something to get above the Thinsulate though, luckily they normally come together. With that Cabela's in Boise you have lots to look at for less than $100
As for clothing,as mentioned cotton is a bad choice. Get poly underlayers ( I like the thicker stuff, less need for heavy on top)then look for wool or more poly with loft to trap air, then a top layer that is pretty much water-proof. Getting wet is what gets you cold and puts you at risk,so anything to keep dry is good. I try to get a Poly T-shirt with a ****** pocket(hard to find) to put those hand heater packets into--one or two keep you warm all day.
Mil-surplus sometimes has wool or winter duty stuff, but prices seem to have gone up in those places.
Ex is from Kuna,So there were too many trips down 55 and 95,but the trips were scenic at least, even when we had to go to Jerome.

why in the world would you buy boots that are too small, Wolverine's are a good choice as it's the only boot I ware because of the way they fit and there anti slip soles, Highly recommended for tractor mechanics that work in an oily mess all day and don't want there feet hurting by the end of the day, tried the Red wings but didn't like them as much, as far as steel toe you wont notice any difference in weight in most cases, but you'll be glad you have them if something falls on your toes, if your using them for there intended use, Work Boots they really really really need to fit right, an ill fitting boot can ruin your day in a hurry
