Are “Desert TFX Tan Rough Out” Danner brand boots permissible under 670-1 optional wear?

It seems to me like AR670-1 optional wear states that you can wear them if your commander says its okay. I'm just currious if I actully have to ask since these boots just have a curvy sole. They aren't the Converse or Oakley boots.

Commander’s discretion only applies when he or she is adding to the standard (like saying he or she doesn’t want anybody in the unit to wearing jump boots even though they are authorized), not taking away from it. It doesn’t apply for them allowing you to wear something unauthorized except in rare situations such as for combat. I haven’t seen those boots but you can always get with your NCO if you don’t understand the standard. The rule of thumb is if they have zippers, a huge (not discreet) logo, or are the same size as Timberlands then you can’t wear them.
