danner boots
motivatorofmarines asked:

Hi all! I'm looking to find a name of a boot that the usmc said was not authorized. However, they were cheaper than danner's about the same quality, were a lot lighter, and resembled a tennis shoe. Before deploying with 1/8 we were told the unit would not be authorized to wear them. I cant remember the name of them for the life of me. Any help would be appreciated. They were definitely not an issue boot such as belleville or bates.

Thanks
I remember now they were simply "SWAT" brand boots. Everyone who bought some before deployment was pissed because tehy could not wear them because they lacked teh eagle globe and anchor . I however bought my second pair of danner boots before getting in country they have worked exceptionally well. I was just trying to remember what they were. Everyone boasted that they felt like tennis shoes and cost under $75. You are all right however take care of your feet and tehy will take care of you.
no im not over there anymore i got back in april and have since discharged. Luckily my whole platoon came back thanks for support!

I have been doing trucking for the last 8 years and bought some cheap ($39.00) desert boots for summer use. I was not expecting much. When I put them on my suspicions were founded in the crappy manner they were made. They suited me fine for my use. I would NEVER wear crap like that if I was going to be doing “field work”.

I buy shoes that cost as much as most people make in a week for dress shoes and do the same for my cowboy boots. You pay the price for quality they will not only last but keep your tootsies happy too. I know you wont get 15 or more years out of combat boots but I did have 1 pair of Cochran jump boots for many years that got re-soled a few times. A well spent $125 in 1976. I think they made into the late 80’s before dieing.

Edit: If you are out and just wanting knocking around stuff I have also used the $20-30 (sale) boots from Big 5 Sporting Goods. They held up and lasted a decent time before getting religion and going hole…..y.

If you go hunting or hikeing don’t go cheap.

There are so many sites selling stuff good and not so good you can get what you need in any brand name. I am thinking about another pair of the leather jump boots though, they are still around $140 and are made to last.

I know of many – Altama, Blachawk, Converse, Phenix Gear? I own Bates that definitely look like tennis shoes. I think you may be talking about 5.11’s, they look like the Danners. I would definitely reccomend the 5.11’s, they were right up there with Bates “tacticals” in comfort, durability and performance. Watch out for the Altama, the sole is too thin and flexible for kicking doors and the like.

Check out the 5.11 “H.R.T.” and “tactical”:

EDIT: “Hooah, and Oorah!!!” Take care of you and your team over there, Marine!
