Danner Hunting Boots

The Danner Shoe Manufacturing Company was created by Charles Danner in 1932. The company consisted of 5 employees and was based in Chippewa Falls, WI. This was during a depression, so a pair of handcrafted Danner boots were selling for $4.00 per pair. Logging was a growing industry in the Pacific Northwest and Mr. Danner learned that "logging" boots were selling for 5 times what his boots were selling for in Chippewa Falls. Sensing an opportunity, Danner moved his family and business to Portland, Oregon in 1936.

The Danner Company continued to grow throughout the 1940's and 1950's. By the late 1950's, Danner had built a solid reputation in the boot business specializing in logging boots. The business had a transition in leadership when Mr. Danner, Sr. passed the reins onto his son, Bill Danner. In the late 1960's, Danner decided to enter the growing "outdoors" market and began producing a hiking boot and hunting boots. In the late 1970's, Danner developed and patented a method to make a boot completely waterproof using GORE-Tex fabric.

In 1994, the Danner Shoe Manufacturing Company was purchased by LaCrosse Footwear in LaCrosse, WI. LaCrosse specialized in rubber based footwear, so the Danner line was a perfect compliment. Danner is still based in Portland, OR and builds boots out of it's 30,000 sq. ft. state of the art factory.

Danner takes a little bit different approach to building boots in that every boot is made here in the USA. Danner offers a full line of boot footwear for hunting, law enforcement/military, work, and hiking, as well as some special uses like snake boots and waders. Danner also offers a unique service called "recrafting". This service allows you to send your favorite pair of Danner boots back to the Danner factory to have them repaired, cleaned, reconditioned, or resoled at a nominal fee. Danner's most popular hunting boot model is the Pronghorn series.

From a price perspective, Danner boots aren't the least or most expensive hunting boots on the market. They make a really nice boot for a decent price. Expect to pay between $150 and $300 for a pair of new Danners. However, you can find some good deals here and there.
