Do any of you have any advice on what kind of socks I should wear on-duty?
ByI recently bought a pair of Rocky brand-Fort Hood 8" boots. They're great for the most part. Not to gross anyone out, but my only problem is that my feet get hot and sweaty in them. I've tried merino wool socks and plain cotton socks with only minimal relief as a result. I don't want to have to get another pair of boots, but it's real uncomfortable having your feet feel like they're in the Amazon. I don't have time to change socks in the middle of my shift and foot powders only work for about an hour.
Do any of you have any advice/first hand experience on socks that can my help my feet get cooler and drier? Any recommendations? Thanks.
And a message to all of the "trolls" on here:
We bust ours to save yours! Remember that.

As someone who has worked on their feet for 30+ years, I suggest you find the most comfortable ones. You might also consider during hot weather to take a extra pair of socks with you to change mid shift. There is nothing better than having comfortable feet when working.

I’ve heard that pink hello kitty socks are very comfortable.

There’s a hiking store called REI that’s online (if you don’t have a store nearby) They sell socks that are designed for long hours of hiking, my son who’s ROTC right now LOVES them, and he runs every day.
Go there and take a look, buy one pair of a couple different kinds and see if you can find something you like.

I’d consider getting a lighter weight duty boot for the summer months. I had the same problem you do but with a pair of Rocky Eliminators. I switched to a pair of Altama lightweights and they have been great!

i agree with “mebe 1042″ i went through the same thing years ago when we were required to wear the old clorino desert style boots. i got stuck on daywatch in the sun for almost 5 hours directing traffic around a fire scene, my feet almost roasted on the blacktop. when you have a hot boot/shoe there is little you can do to cool it down. i switched to bates floataways and things got a lot better. good luck.

Try looking at a decent sporting goods store for UnderArmour socks. You could also try their website shown below. Their original goal for performance wear was to wick away moisture from the body. Good luck!
