Snake Boots Versus Snake Chaps

One of the posts I did on Snake books prompted an e-mail question about the difference between snake proof boots and snake proof chaps.

Snake boots are actaul boots that have been covered in ballistic nylon so a snale bite cannot penetrate the boot. Snake chaps are built like horseback chaps in that they cover both of the legs from the upper thigh down to the boot. Snake chaps are usually covered in cordura or some other nylon based covering that prevents bite penetration from a snake.

Both have pros and cons. Snake boots only cover the leg up to the knee area while chaps cover all the way up to the upper thigh, but chaps don't cover the foot itself. If your boots aren't snake proof, then you may still be at risk with chaps only. Personally, I prefer snake boots as they offer me a level of protection where I really want it: my lower leg.
